Healing Your Inner Child

Sometimes we have experiences in childhood that we need to heal. Most of us are fortunate enough to have mostly good memories, while others have a parent or parents that were extremely abusive.
The abuse can be emotional or physical in nature. I know someone very dear to me who was in an orphanage up until 18 months of age, he was adopted by a family that looked great outwardly to the world however what went on behind closed doors was something all together different. When I first met  "John"(name changed to protect his identity) his mother described his adoption like this:
John's father and I were going to the orphanage to sign the final adoption papers for our other adopted son when one of the ladies from the orphanage brought out "John" she stated, " how nice it would be to have two boys". John immediately ran up to my husband and hugged him the two of us looked at each other and said we really didn't want another child. We decided that we would take John as well.
As this story goes poor John was doomed from the start his adoptive parents felt forced into the adoption, and John would pay the price. John had some behavior issues as he had ADHD , his parents did not take the advice of the school and get him help as they felt he didn't need it. John's father thought he could beat him until he behaved. Some examples are: being beat down the stairs with steel toed boots, getting his bike run over because it was left in the driveway, and being kicked out of the house to live in the forest preserve in the cold. Many of us have suffered from abuse, and it is difficult to heal the inner child. Through my studies it has always been taught that forgiveness will help you heal.  I do understand that we have no idea what the abuser went through in their life and they may not have had good role models. Sometimes the things that happened no matter the reason are to painful to forgive. For John I do intensive Hypnotherapy.
