Analyzing Alkaline Diets
Maintaining proper PH in our bodies is important for good health. A body that has proper PH will lose weight easily and not have a buildup of toxins. If our liver is full of pesticides, toxins fats, sugars, and food additives it will not operate as a well functioning part of our bodies. A liver that is toxic is not functioning our bodies properly or metabolizing efficiently. By consuming food that balance our PH “Alkalizing” we cleanse the liver. All living organisms need proper PH to thrive and proper PH allows the nutrients to get absorbed. The PH determines if a solution is acidic or alkaline, a PH below 7 is acidic and a PH above 7 above 7 is alkaline. Pure distilled water has a PH of 7 . Our bodies function optimally if the PH in our bodies is 7.4. Our PH is mostly established by what we consume. Sleeping, keeping stress to a minimum, and exercising also helps. Alkaline forming foods are those that supply calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium, iron, and manganese. Acid forming foods supply copper, bromine, fluorine, chlorine, iodine, phosphorus, sulfur, and silicon. To maintain proper PH in the body you should maximize alkaline forming foods and minimize acid forming foods. Our alkaline reserves have mostly calcium so when we eat inadequately our bodies pull the calcium from our reserves and this can lead to Osteoporosis. Hypocalcemia , calcium deficiency can lead to obesity ,arthritis, cancer, heart disease, and acid reflux. When our body's alkaline reserves are low our bodies have difficulty neutralizing acid and this can lead to acidosis and that can cause joint pain, headaches, diabetes, hormone imbalances, inflammatory diseases, and sleep problems. Acidosis is common with the American diet that consists mostly of acid producing foods like meat, eggs dairy and we do not eat enough of alkaline producing foods like whole grains, nuts and vegetables. We also consume too many artificial sweeteners, drugs, and food additives that are all acid forming. Too much acid can cause fatigue, low energy levels, nasal congestion, chronic illnesses, anxiety, irritability, dry skin, and brittle nails. The key to decreasing instances of Osteoporosis is an alkaline diet so your body doesn’t pull the reserves of calcium from your bones. Eating 5 fruits, and vegetables for every for every one serving of meat, fish or chicken. Going vegan one day a week can also help to alkalize the body. Alkaline diet can help your overall health, I would say a combination of decreased eating of processed foods, choosing organic as often as possible, consuming low glycemic index foods will consist of a well rounded nutrition plan.A good reference for acid vs. alkaline foods :
